OK, so I was milling yesterday with my 395 and I finish a board, turn the saw off, move the board and try to start the saw again...try being the key word here. I pull the cord and it stays out. I proceed to take the cover off and while I'm lifting the cover off the cord pulls back with full force. It left a bruise on my thumb if that gives you an idea. While its off I pull it a couple of times and it seems to move perfectly normal. So I put it back on and try to start it again...same thing. It stays out.

Seems like it would have enough strength to recoil when attached...but its not. The 2 pawls seem to work as they should.

Anyone?

Thanks!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmm sounds like your starter pawls aren't letting go of the rope pulley or you've cracked your rope rotor. Check your rope rotor real close and make sure it isn't cracked anywhere causing it to hang up. If nothing is cracked or broken give it a good cleaning and try her again.

Now that the kids are all put to bed I can take a closer look under better light and yup, cracked. :bang:

Thanks!

Awwwwwwwwwwwww tant no biggie, easy to fix. You get a new rotor and put it in there, notihng to it...

Just thought I'd throw an update in here for you guys. It was easier for me to drop the saw off and have them toss the new rotor and gasket in. When I went to pick it up I asked them if they had tested it.

They said no.

I went ahead and pulled the cord and there it sat again. Feeling happy that I discovered this now rather than get home and discover this and be UNhappy, I politely smiled and asked them what they thought was still wrong. We proceeded to look at this thing for a good 1/2 hour before discovering burs on the pawls. It was just enough to keep the rotor from retracting. A little filing and we were in business.
