A tornado hit my town last nite! Cha-ching!!! haha anyways i got a mulberry off of a house and it has a couple of small holes in the roof (3) 6inch holes with aliitle bit of decking tha needs to be replaced. Basicilly a 6' x 6' peice roof needs to be replaced. How should i bid it? I know how to roof but i never was around the money side so when the insurance company is involved what should i expect to make? i think i can do it in 5 - 6 hrs.

Good advice.

I'd add:

It's nice to be busy, but it's really in poor taste to outwardly celebrate the misfortune of others.

:dizzy:

No kidding. The original post made me feel bad. What is a tree guy doing getting involved with roofing, anyway? We know our specialty, let the roofers have theirs, since you don't know much about it. The next time a tree lands on a roof, how would you like the client calling a roofer for the removal?

I know a local roofer that I refer roofing work to and in turn he feeds me work, to clear branches from roofs before he puts them up or replaces them. Both of our businesses run mostly from referals, I don't step on his toes and vise-versa. Find someone in your area that can do the same.

I'm no expert, but a professional roofer would probably charge 3X's the cost of material plus labor. That should do it.

Heck this is a brilliant opportunity, fix the roof and then casually comment that there floor could need doing, then work your way down to the basement where you see tree roots impeding on on piles and plumbing. Give the tree a severe root pruning which causes the tree to die back on the house side and drop a limb through the roof, which you can then fix. This job could last you 6 months!:givebeer:

insurance companies don't like to see the client make any $$$ on claims. usually they only want to pay for materials... if you do the work.

get two bids from a professional roofing company. don't be surprised if the quote includes new decking and an entire new roof.

went there friday

yep vernon got pretty torn up , i dont know if it was a tornado but def. at least 80 mph winds, we worked late friday night, tackled a lot of small stuff. brought in just over 5 grand 13 hours 4 man crew. just put new knives on mr chipper before we arrived, damn those chips looked creamy!

Well the only reason why i patched the roof was cuz iit was for a little old lady and we had a chance for rain that nite and there was no way a roofer would have been able to go over there and get it done. But believe me, i know now there is no money in that ####! it took a couple of hours their only gonna pay 400 so i didnt make anything close to what you could in a tree.

what do you work out of a pickup truck tom trees:monkey:

What are you, trying to insult me? It ain't gonna work, i do work out of the back of a pickup. Where else am i gonna carry my gear? We're a climbing crew so no bucket. My chip truck and grapple don't have enough room for it all plus it always seems like you need something when they are off dumping. The crane could probably carry it all but it doesn't come on every job. So yeah, i work out of a pickup. And if you are implying we are a fly-by-night outfit, well that is even more insulting. I'm top climber for a company thats been around over 25 years, employs over 40 people, and runs a dozen full time bucket and climbing crews year around. How big is your outfit?

Before you start insulting, maybe do a little research on who you are insulting. I've spent my time in the saddle, i've paid my dues, and if you are in wny, odds are you've heard my name and you know what i can do. Why don't you stay down in the off topic forum where the people think you are funny?

whoa! first time ive seen the big dog bark'n at anyone!

i think and i could be wrong beowulf he was quoting you and talking to the original poster. could be wrong though.

if not, bark on big fella, its nice to see some fire!

Yeah whats wrong with my pick-up. It's paid for:clap:. I'm sure he meant no insult and we all had to start some where. Don't know to many guys that start out with top of the line equipment.

Back to topic. I wouldn't have posted this here. If you just wanted to help out someone cover your time and material with a little extra. Not to hard to figure is it.
