I had to climb today and it was foggy and wet. What do you recommed for fiction hitches with wet rope? I was using VT and switched to a Schwabish. Safety blue cliimb line and Tenex eye to eye. Anyone recommend a mechanical split tail? Thanks bob

i highly recomend the lock-jack sport. i have used the spider jack for about a weak or more but im gonna swich back to sport. if the buget is low you can always use the blakes. imo it works alot better than the small cord in the rain and my jacks stay dry n clean. I CANT STAND CLIMBING IN THE RAIN!!!

Killer, I will give you my thoughts even though I am having trouble with your display name.

Climbing in the rain sucks. No matter what hitch you use it will wring out your rope like twisting a wet spunge and dump all the water right in your lap. The only thing I find that helps is bib rain gear with no crotch opening.

Working for myself now I don't work in the heavy rain any more (barring true emergencies).

P.S. WLL: I, too, use the Lockjack Sport and was thinking of trying the Spider Jack. What don't you like about it?

the dag gone handle grabs anything that gets near it (shirt sleave). other than that it does the same darn thing fer a few more bucks

Thanks for the feedback, WLL. I thought the Spyder Jack was suppose to have more refined rope control. I'm really quite happy with the Sport.

Killer, I reread my post after getting home and realized I was so busy whining about working in the rain that I hadn't answered your question. Your Tenex eye-to-eye with the Schwabisch or a Distel (which I prefer) should be a good reliable wet weather combo. (Good being relative...back to whining.)

Mechanical split tail (such as the Lockjack) is no better plus it will increase the wear factor into the cams. So I generally don't use my Lockjack during inclement/muddy/obnoxious weather.

I agree with D Mc about the Schwabisch in the wet. It has seemed entirely reliable. The Distel should be similar, but not so easy to loosen up with one hand should you need to.

I climb in the rain alot. Alot. The schwabisch works very well for me. I switched for the tenex to beeline and love it, lasts alot longer, far less water holding. Still wrings out the climb line like a dish rag though.

Better than climbing in the snow and ice........

I'll argue that one with you. Nothing i hate more than 40 degrees and rain. Would rather work in snow and ice any day.

As to hitches in the rain, one reason i switched from the taughtline was it's poor performance in the rain. I actually have always liked the blakes in the rain although the martin seems to do ok too.

I would try the blakes, though I too don't do much wet climbing if I don't have to.

sorry about the name KILLEROFTREES I even have regets about it. It should LOVEROFTREES. I do like honesty. Thanks for the input... bob
