My dad gave me this saw the other day. he has had the saw for as long as i can remember and hasent used it or started it in at least 14 years. he told that it never really ran all that good. he said it would start good but once it got hot it would act like it was "vapor locked". i am not sure what year the saw is but i am guessing it is early 80s.

So i got a few minuets today to pull it down a little bit. i pulled the muffler and the exhaust side of the piston look great. i then pulled the plug and we have plenty of spark. i dumped the million year old gas and filled it with fresh mix. pulled for a bit and dint even get a pop. i pulled the filter and carb. the fuel line had a big kink in it so i tried to straighten it and it fell apart. the carb looks really really clean i cant believe it.

so i am going to try to get a new fuel line and filter tomorrow after work. can i just buy the same size automotive fuel line or should i try to order the fuel line from husky?

Any idea what year it is? here are the numbers from the saw
Emab - Electrolux Motor AB
Type 50 Ass 2234/81
1503 008985

thanks for the input

Josh

I will first say that the model 50 is a great saw and will do a lot of work. The knink in the fuel line could have been the issue since day one, once the saw gets warm the knink would close completely off. Another problem these saws had was with the choke system, the choke lever pushes the air filter down against the carb to choke the saw. Once the saw gets warm the filter would soften up and allow it to drop and choke the saw with the lever off. You probably will not find a automotive fuel line that will work on this saw, it is much smaller than anything on a car. You should be able to get something from Lowes, local lawn and garden store or a dealer. The model 50 uses a straight piece of hose so it should be fairly easy to replace.

thanks a lot Roanoker. I wasnt too impressed with the choke system on the saw. If she runs after the new fuel line and filter i will be pretty happy.

You can upgrade the choke system with the newer system off of a model 51 or 55. You would need the carb, air filter, filter plate and top cover.

Edit:
By the way I would say your saw would be from the early 80's, I believe they changed the recoil and went with a black top around 84 or 85.

wow gink i didnt realize the white top was that white at one time. I remember this saw in 1988 for sure i was 6 years old and my dad always told me he couldnt wait till i was big enough to run it.

It will all go much easier if you get an OEM husky fuel line. Something that is "pretty close" will either not seal the tank properly, or if a little larger will contract as it goes through the hole and restrict fuel flow. As was said, the kink could have been a problem all along. A tank vent issue could also be a possibility. Otherwise, that chassis was very reliable throughout the several models that were built on it.

I have a few husky dealers on the way home from work i will order one tomorrow.

That should be in stock at just about any shop. You can use the same fuel line that's used on the 372/346 etc. Husky fuel lines are pretty simple. Either is has the grommet, or it doesn't. Some of the grommeted ones, such as on early 288's are longer, but interchangeability is very good.

Where in NY are you? I think I should know where Spencer is, but I can't think of it at the moment.

I was thinking it might be a 1981 aswell. i stoped by my dealer today and ordered a fuel line he said it should be in by friday.
