Good afternoon all. Great site with great info. We are anoutdoor services company that does everything from landscaping to pressure washing, and you guessed it dropping trees. The tree service is where my heart is at, but being a new company I decided to go more the handyman route, to build up clientele quicker. So far so good.
I have a homeowner that has 18 trees that need to be dropped and removed. Stumps are to be cut between 18"-24" so that they can be bulldozed. Each tree is capable of hitting the house. The largest tree is 18" diameter. Under most circumstances, I would overbid and walk away from this job, but I am not intimidated by trees that size, and the homeowner is a great customer.
I am not a newbie to the industry, but am limited with personnel.

I am curious to hear what kind of bid you all would give a job like this. We have all the tools necessary to handle this job, without renting.

Thanks,

Chris

Someone who wasn't a newbie to the industry, and has all the tools/equipment necessary to do the job wouldn't be here asking for help with the bid.

Are you insured? Are you insured for treework?

Got a business license? Got one for treework?

To answer your question (sorta)....

Calculate your labor hours and expenses for the job.

Multiply hours by labor rate, add expenses, add profit margin.

There's your bid.

As long as you know what you're doing, you can estimate your labor and expenses accurately right?

Well, call it what you want. If I wasn't sure how to do a bid, I would never have gone into business for myself.
I wasnt asking you to ask me alot more questions, I was simply wanting your rough estimate of what you would bid the job.
I am not on here to get into a pissing contest with anyone about who is better at what. i just want opinions, and yes I am legal and insured and all that good fun business stuff.

Just so I understand....

You don't know what to bid the job, and you've seen it, right?

And you want us to tell you what to bid, without even seeing a picture?

Ok, fine. I'd bid it eighteen cents a pound.

Isn't this thread like the thread about the homeowner wanting a price over the phone.

While I have no idea what it would cost, I think you should just do it for the experience. That way next time you will know how much to charge.

Just my $.02 worth.

Chop 'em & drop 'em, $50 per tree. Two guys, two hours, plus roadtime.

Leave the mess for the bulldozer. Cut them at 3' tall.

What? Climbing involved ? You want the brush disposed of too ? That changes the bid...

need to see pictures a job like that to me could range anywhere from like 15k to 35k cant tell the size of the trees what kind of drag you got just firgure out how long its going to take you. if need to make 200.00 an hour to cover costs and put money in your pocket then there you go. do you have a minimum on what you need to make? to many variables.

Landscape to pressure wash & now....Tree`s, Why?

I love when someone needs advice bidding.....my thought... if you need to ask, then you probably shouldn't be doing it!!

its different if it was a question about what a job like this would cost in others areas, or a question about technique advice, etc.. you need to be told what to bid cause you don't have the slightest clue!!

Stick with pressure washing & planting tulips!!

LXT........

$3,875.57

Oh , And I am a jerk. But yeah somewhere around there but my magic number is 5 grand. You would be amazed at the tricks I could perform for that!
I lady called me and wanting to find the cheapest guy, that's what she said. She called the rest of us too. The first guy got the job, she never called any one of us to say" don't waste your time coming out in this heavy rain to look at my broken up tree".
I don't go running everytime the phone rings so I was spared but everybody else was pissed about it.
I call her up and say" I am looking for a magic show for my kids birthday and want the cheapest son of a ##### over here f-ing it up. Are you that magic show? If so, when can you start?"Which I think she was asking me to do for her but of course if I f-ed it up... After a moment of silence, which I love to let linger even in person, she explains that she only does quality shows.
you have to learn to love the client I guess.
