Hello,

I have a 461 that is giving me fits. It came to me for a tuneup. Compression is 140psi. New ngk spark plug installed, I cleaned the air filter and cleaned the ignition module as it was caked with junk. I gapped it with a business card.

Fuel filter looks good. I also checked the spark arrestor and it's clean.

It starts and runs well. When you peg the throttle it goes up to 13-13500 and bounces around a little. It sometimes jumps above 14k.

Any idea why?

Crank seals are gettin weared, should only be a problem at idle though. Perhhaps it only needs to enrichen the carb at wot.

Interesting. I had no idea.

So how do you tune one if you don't have access to a log to put them into?

You can tell when it hits the limiter. If you start with the H jet rich and then lean it out 1/4 turn at a time and test in 1–2 second bursts, you can tell when it quits climbing. That is 13,500. And then I would richen a little bit from there to be safe.
