Helping identify this disease / fungus

I have a customer who has a white oak. Appears very healthy in crown and is mature. However, a butt root is exhibiting a black discoloration which has a foul odour.

Advise appreciated.

Hmmmmmm...cant tell if there's old fruiting bodies or not but alcohol or slime flux can smell pretty bad.

There were no fruiting bodies - but the smell of alcohol was over powering.

Take a chunk of that foul wood, put it in a Baggie n take it to your nearest county Ag plant pathology lab for analysis.

They'll tell yu exactly what's up.

They do it free of charge here in Californy.
