Could be early still. Hope the drought hasn't caused a down year. Will probably look here in about a week.

We just go in from lookin We didn't find the hen but there was some other types of mushrooms up they looked edible . We didn't have a goat with to test em

Looks just like the clump of mushroom I've yanked out of 1 of my beds and tossed into the woods 3 times this year so far. Last 1 was just a few days ago, will have to check it out more closely if it comes back again...

Sulphur Shelf or Chicken Mushroom (Laetiporus sulphureus) - AmericanMushrooms.com

SULPHUR SHELF MUSHROOMS GROWING ON ANY CONIFER TREE (PINE, HEMLOCK, SPRUCE, FIR, LARCH/TAMARACK, ETC.), EUCALYPTUS, OR LOCUST TREES SHOULD NOT BE EATEN! Also, as with a number of wild mushrooms and many other foods (e.g. shellfish, peanuts, and milk products), some individuals have allergic reactions to this particular species.

Just put em all in a box I'll come up and take care of them for you!!!

I've heard it said that you can trust any mushroom growing from or on a tree. Weather that be roots, stumps or log. Morrels, hen of the woods and shiitakes are all from trees. I'm probably way off base, but its what i have heard from a couple of very avide fungi collectors. Puffballs are another really good edible mushroom, but nothin beats a Morrel.

a homeowner we cut an elm from was saving logs and said he was going to put mushroom plugs in them he didnt know how he was waiting for a freind to show him anyone ever done that?

Well I was wrong, not sure what they are but they are not the Hen ones, sucks, if they where, I would be loaded! Have one that is BAAAAARIGHT Orange, cool looking, but Bear and Les say to stay away from bright colored ones. All of mine are growing out of wood. I took my camera, but it was like 1000% humidity, lens kept fogging over. Have never had the that happen before. Try again maybe today, want to see what yall think.
