I am restoring my 031av from the bottom up. I have the nova module on the coil. Do I need the electronic flywheel or the points flywheel? I was just going to use the stock points flywheel but it is missing a pawl and many fins but after reading previous posts, I don't know which flywheel will make it run right.

Do an AS search... You'll see many opinions on this matter.

I believe you need either an electronic flywheel, or, you need to move a points flywheel the exact amount required to match that of the electronic wheel (remove the key, clamp down without it - tricky, but....). Not everyone agrees. Back in the late 80's Stihl issued a Tech note saying absolutely not to just replace the points with a trigger module.

It may be module dependent. An accurate timing light will tell all.

I mostly just fix the points system by putting in a new condensor. They work fine.

I know you use the electronic flywheel as a template but how much is the flywheel turned? If I can't find an electronic flywheel, i am going to end up with a points flywheel.

I don't have an exact measurement.... and it needs to be exact to be correct. I just mark it with the electronic flywheel core and line up the leading edge of the magnets.

Give me a couple of days (we're about to get snowed in again...). I'll dig out two flywheels and photograph them in registration, or something like that.
