Does anyone use any advanced hitches with New Engaland Safety Blue Hivee and if so what cord do you use for hitches. I'm really interested in using a smoother hitch other than the Blake. It's just not consistent enough. Also, what would you recomend, I weigh 200lbs and rarely carry a chainsaw when climbing, as far as weight goes.
Thanks,
Brandon

Are you split-tail and dead end spliced?
Why not look at going SRT.I like rope grabs, backed up of course.

I gotta say Red Bull the New England 16 strand is by far the best rope I have ever used.
Several of my NE ropes have been downgraded but still work .

Yes, I use a split tail system with a Blake right now. The problem I have is that when I am trying to limb walk with any kind of speed, my hitch is just to inconsistent to be as fluid as I'd like. I really like my HiVee to. I would like to use SRT as an ascent option, but I prefer to work Drt.

I dont like the massard tressee (sp) the knot is just way to slipery for me in a tree. Using 9mm tress cord or tying 1/2 inch splittails bro?

Try using tech cord with with the double end slice and try the swab/distel and still use the micro .the small cord take some getting used to but you will like the results.i didn't like saftey blue accenders and hitchs wouldn't slide like my arbormaster rope from samson. maybe some one has some pics.

I switched from the Blake's to the Distel a couple years ago. Its great. You won't go back.

I'd like to try the VT or some of the other new hitches. I bought a piece of 5mm tech cord for that purpose, but it looks too small. Its strong enough (5000lbs) but I'm not sure how such a small rope will act on my 1/2" climbing line.

Whats a good diameter and length for tying the VT?

What should I look for as far as breaking strength? 8mm Sta-Set is rated at 3000lbs. How does this relate to the ANSI standards of 5000lbs?

How long of a piece do you need to tie the friction hitch plus the double fisherman's on each end?

Is there an alternative to the fisherman's knot that isn't so bulky? Besides splicing that is.

Anchor knot would be an alternative but the fishermans would be better in this situation.

on and eye and eye the rope only needs to be 2500 lbs. Doubled strength in this sort of configuration; 8mm sta set cut to 45 inches and w/ fishermans in each end will make a good length cord for a 4/1 hitch

redbull, do you know the prussik hitch I also use a splittail of 8mm amsteel eye spliced in one end then tye the prussik where i need it . I just happen to work for a rigging shop in the marine industry, and have been trying different kinds of rope as splittails .I have also tried the dacron 3strand , was impressed with it also. say you realy like the hi-vee , I am interestd in the new poison ivy , has any one tryed this yet? see ya

new england split tail all the way baby! on arborgold climbing line, works a treat nice and controlled. keep trying the distal and the icicle but always end up going back to blakes.

Dan, I predict that you will like the 3/8ths Staset very much. _I used the 8mm(5/16ths for a couple of years and thought it was good-then I tried 3/8ths and found it MUCH better. Currently I'm using 3/8ths Yale XLS-appearance and strength are the same as Staset but the Yale seems a tad softer-In any case, 3/8ths yacht braids seem to make just about perfect tress cords.
