Chipped some brush for a lady a couple of weeks ago. I talked to her yesterday she said shell have the money friday. I go by her house (like I always have to to get my $) shes not there. So I cruise by her place of biz to see if shes there, no luck there either. So I go on down to the next light to turn, and wouldnt ya know there she is. She sees me coming and starts acting like shes digging something out of the passenger floorboard to try and hide her face from me. I know where shes going so I just act like I didnt see her and go down a couple more blocks and turn to go back and follow her. I go to her business that she owns and shes parked around back in the ally (which she never does). I pull up and smile, " How are you today"? You should have seen the look on her face. She replies with a fake, " I doing great, how about you "? I feel like a collections agent.

Times are tough. Unless i know the person real good, a re-peat customer, or a business i'll wait for my money. Everybody else pays before the truck leaves. I have a lady that owes me $175 for a stump that i ground out. She was dating a friend of mine when i did the work, now that there split up all of a sudden she doesn't have the money. Ticks me off to no end. I know how ya feel. I'd rather have someone just steal the money out of my pocket than do the work and not get paid.

I hate the slow paying, duck and dodgers!

Had one prick last year tell me he had to have his trees trimmed the next day, ASAP. I rearranged my schedule to bump him up to the next day then he ducked me for a week on paying me. Talk about pissed! :blob2:

I don't juggle my schedule for folks anymore unless it's an extreme emergency.

I had a guy do that last september too. I never saw it coming, dude had a $300,000 home and dodged me for 2 weeks over $750. I guess ill learn one day.

I did this job for a shrink once. Every time I went to his place to collect he had another excuse, using fancy language and psychology to dance around the issue. Finally, after a couple of months, I went up to his place in the hills when he wasn't home. I spray painted several large fir trees near his house, pointing the face and back cuts toward his house. He paid.

That's funny. Probably illegal but funny.

Developers are the worst, or so I've found them to be. They talk big, show you all of their ongoing projects around town, and then when it comes time for them to pay you for the work you've done, they are nowhere to be found and their voicemail box is full. I have had to take preliminary steps to put contractors' liens on projects in order to get my $$$. As soon as they see the wheels in motion for legal hassles, they find the time and money to pay you, unless they're going under, altogether. So far I've avoided those.

I've become a humourless mercenary when it comes to getting paid. Once we have the job description and price understood, I look the guy right in the eye and say; "So as soon as the last piece of wood hits and ground and gets cut up, you're handing me a check for the full amount. Riiight?"

If we do our part, the customer better do his part or I'm opening a can of Machiavelli on his azz.

UPDATE: This lady told me at 6:00 pm she would be around to pay. Guess what? She aint home yet!!! I mowed grasss for her up untill a couple days ago. I guess she thinks since I aint mowing anymore she can give me the shaft. She better wake up cause I got a gallon of high grade roundup in the garage!! Not that I would do that or anything! LOL!! :chainsaw:

I always have about 15-20% of people pay slow. Lately that has gone up to 35-40%. People are still paying but they are taking 20 or more days. Only been beat out of a lot of money once and that was by Mark Mann and Central Indiana Power. What a hard lesson that was to learn.

this is good

First guy i worked for couple years ago, we did a couple little maples job was around 700,my boss knew the dude from wherever idont know. He didnt pay for about 2 monthes, showed up at work one day to find a nice looking john deere lawn mower in my way???

My boss actully went to dudes house and took his lawn mower till he paid,
so if you dont get paid when you are done look around, whats worth what u just did

not a bad idea to put some intrest on delinqunt payments its on the bottom of our work orders.

:givebeer:

I know a crane operator who was owned $$$ by a welder, so he lifted the guy's truck with welding gear on top of a 3-story building that was under construction.

Knock on wood, I've always collected on all my jobs. Sometimes you need to use psychology or persuasion...

when people don't pay me I send my homies over at night to collect and I usually get a little extra.

I did use some psycology on her. Today I called and left message saying that I didnt want it to escalate into it but I would take legal action if necessary. There was a check at my house in less than 2 hours!! Problem solved!! I finally went to www.nebs.com and got some landscaping contracts ordered. Should be here in about 2 weeks. Now I have leverage if I ever get screwed again!!!
