I have a old man that lives near me that has a homelite 1050 brand new still in the wood box how much is this saw worth?

They are old and heavy and basically worthless - send it to me and I'll dispose of it in an environmentally responsible manner.

just kidding - post some photos, sounds like a real jewel. $$$
 
$400 sounds pretty darn steep, especially for a box you can't even look in before you dish out the dough.

I agree - who knows how it was stored? If humid, could be some P&C corrosion as well as dry rotted fuel line and carb diaphragm.
Now if you could confirm condition, it could be worth that or more to a collector. If I were going to spend that much for a working saw I'd look for a used 372 or MS460 that is lighter and will run a 28" - 32" bar and have parts readily available.

I have 2 1050's my Dad bought new in the early 70's. I have 24 and 36" bars for both of them. I'd like to see it before I paid, but I'd go $400, if it had good compression and looked like a brand new saw. I mill with one of my 1050's and it cuts just fine, the biggest cuts I've made are about 26". It has enough torque on wood that size it cuts about as fast as I can push it, Joe
