recently picked this old lass up for my collection, its a Homelite 1050 super which hadn't been used for decades. it never had a spark so I converted it to electronic ignition and she now has an excellent spark. I made some gaskets for the inlet manifold as the others didn't look to cleaver. fitted a carb kit and cleaned the carb out, fitted new fuel line/filter. and fired her up. she's not running right, I cannot seem to get the carb set up properly, I have the tick-over screw turned all the way in to get it to run smoothest. what are the carb jet settings for this saw? what are the common places to look for leaks on this carb, known problem areas? I think the crank seals will be o.k, its had a tank full of fuel through it and it didn't rev its nuts off . it also needs an exhaust as the one fitted had half rotted away with sitting idle for years. would an xl800 carb fit on? I'm in the uk so postage from the usa is a very last resort. CD

Couldn't see the video. There were two Tillotson carbs used. One has an air by-pass screw for adjusting idle and is a little trickier to adjust. If it has this one, there are three adjustment screws on the left side of the housing.

I had the electronic module on mine and it would just about take your arm off trying to start is. Went back to points and all is well. I did put a snowmobile starter handle on it.

First question, does it have a Tillotson or a Walbro carburetor? Need that before I can give a answer.
tillotson with the air screw . I have tried it with the air screw (tick-over) 3/8 and 1 turn on each jet and a whole array of other settings. C D

video problem now fixed ;o) it has the tilly air tick-over type carb . the electronic ignition I used was the self grounding sig type and it was very successful, I have done a few Homelite xl12 with the same chip as well as a Lombard and it appears to work a treat on those particular saws. ;O) C D

OK, same as mine. Idle speed is controlled with the screw on the air bypass. It works opposite of normal idle screw. I have the correct procedure, just need to find it and will post it. Make sure the hose running from the cyl. base to the port on the intake elbow is not leaking.

thanks buzz its a help but I did actually try those settings. I had it out this afternoon, started 2nd/3rd pull, and noticed that the throttle leaver had been bent and was hitting the carb body acting like a tick-over so I bent it back into a right angle and then it wouldn't tick-over at all. so manipulated it a little sp it was just touching the carb body and ran about 1/4 tank of gads through it, and its getting better, and I managed to get it somewhere near, near enough to think about fitting an exhaust, giving it a good mornings graft to clean her out etc. and set her up in the cut ? the pipe to the cylinder is spot on I had it off the other day and boiled it in water to soften it up again before inspecting/ re-fitting ;o)
