$90 seems to be WAY TOO RICH for that model homie.. i wouldn't want over $15 or $25 in it..

They were not a expensive saw new $179ish but now that their out of business why???

for a hunderd or so you can but a real pro saw used with service and parts available.

Ive actually got to agree with scott, who I hear is a Stihl owner...

240 isnt worth 90 bucks. Its a decent saw and all, good homeowner firewood saw, pretty lightweight. But I wouldnt pay over 50 dollars for a good running one, with a full tank of gas and bar oil.

Having said that, Im an idiot....I dont try and hide that fact.:ices_rofl:

I went digging through the graveyard of saws I have and YES I Guess I do Own a 028 or 2 LOL.. You AS gooroo's are going to shoot me if I tell you that about 6 years ago I scrapped about 25 cubic yards of traded saws all brands and the same about 6 years before that.

Gotta agree with these guys. I paid $20 for my Super XL. I have yet to find a pawn shop with a reasonable price on saws....one exception, and he was overstocked with WildThings.

What hurt was about 3 years ago I had a freind who knew a guy that had a FEILD full of equipment, from riders, to tillers, etc etc...then he had tin sheds stocked FULL of saws and trimmers, etc..

His neighbors reported him to the sherriff...and they gave him 10 days to clear it all out.

I saw him with about a 15 foot long Trailor with...5-5 riders stacked ontop of God only knows how many Vintage Homelites, He said the day before, he had a trailor full of Stihls. He said he had an 090, 088's, all the way down to the little consumer saws. He said the big one had a 5 foot bar on it, and I beleive him, my freind confirmed seeing it before.

He said it hurt him to roll it all down...25-30 feet into the metal tank at the landfill.

He said he had well over 350 saws total, all but a few went to the dump, all but a few were complete, many ran.

He said he had pioneers, J-reds, Stihl, husky, Poulans (the old ones), Homies, macs...everything you can imagine, including an old old "wright" saw with a recipricating blade on it. Id seen these type of saws before...absolute mammoths!

I couldnt get to any of the saws under his pile of mowers, and he was in a big hurry to take it to the dump...

I could have racked up like mad...but he didnt know I was into saws, and my freind didnt know he was taking them ALL to the dump.

Before you decided to "junk" another load of saws..pull me out some old Macs and homies...Stihls...etc...mmmkaY?

Can't see that much for a 240 either. I would put it as just an OK
saw running at 100% and
there are a lot better out there.

Better yet, look for a Craftsman 4.5 on evilbay. Its really a rebadged 450.

I just snagged one for $52:clap: Monster compression on this one, few lil problems,7 out of 10 overall.

I am not a sponsor here so I have to wait a few days. If after a few days and no sponsor has given you a good deal let me know. I am a Homelite guy but the240 was not worth $90 even when it was new. I see you are in Iowa so we are close.

Dump Homelite

I picked a good running, good looking 240 out of the dump a few years ago. Turns out it was my neighbors and he gave me a spare chain and the owners manual. Not a bad little saw.

I love Homelites, have a few too, but I don't have a 240. $90 can get you a much nicer saw, or you should be able to find a 240 for much, much less. A reasonable value in my book would be about $20-$30 for one that's running, oiling, and in pretty nice shape.
