I recently aquired a Homelite xl-102 and I am needing help with the fuel octane. It was recommended to be regular grade between 72 and 83 octane. Will it hurt my saw if I use unleaded gas?

Also, is this a good saw to own for an older saw?

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to Arborist Site.

Yes unleaded is ok to use in the saw.

Indeed, great saw, powerful. Does not have anti vibration, or anti kickback/chainbrake that the newer saws have adopted.

Check the condition of the fuel line and replace if at all questionable, a saw of that age should have been replaced or is due to go. Causes many failures when it does, lean condition, pooches ring and possibly cylinder. Tygon fuel line will do if you cannot find the exact replacement. A small engine service shop will have it for you. Also use some gromments, they were built in the original moulded fuel line(black).

More info if you are interested on your saw.
