I have always used 16:1 in my Homelite XL top handle. This saw has survived since I got it new for christmas in the early eighties. That is the factory recommended ratio as I recall.
Dad still runs 16:1 in his, that's what the literature that came with the saw when he bought it said. But that was the dark ages of 2 cycle oil. Modern oils would likely be fine up to 40-50:1. I run 32:1 in all my old Homelites, though.
