I am trying to replace fuel line for homelite XL 12 1968. I bought 2 fuel lines and both broke pulled (apart) when pulling the seating edge through the gas tank hole, I used plenty of lubricants before during the process. the new fuel line is much different then the original fuel line, such as- ID size and the hole that runs through new line is off center from the middle of the line except for the ends and its very easy to poke hole in the thin wall off set line. The fuel line is 11 dollars each I don’t wish to waist any more money. I don’t want to split the cases. Does anyone have known safe simple improvised alternatives? the saw runs great if I can get gas to the carb. thanks for ur help, homer.

Homer, send me your address & I will send you a set of gromets & a piece of tygon fuel line. Works much better than those aftermarket hoses like you have.

Welcome to A/S

That is a nice offer from Mike!

I replaced my XL-12 fuel line with the one you are having an issue with. Make no mistake, that style is a pain in the butt to get through without tearing. I used a squirt of Dawn dish soap, had someone pull & twist gently while I used a wooden popcicle stick to help push it through. My first one also ended in disaster after I tore it with a flat screwdriver by myself.
The wooden stick, soap & a second set of hands was what worked for me.
Good luck.
