what happened to homelite professional chainsaws, in australia they were very popular 40 years ago and used by most professional timber getters

Homelite and Mcculloch have been dead for some time now. No "Pro" type saws to be had.

I think I would actually buy a Poulan in a Wal-mart store before I would buy anything Homie or Mac is offering now.

In a nutshell,mismanagement .

Both were the finest made during their glory days.Homelite became part of John Deere for a period of time, basically just another outlet to hid corperate money,Ken Lay style.

McCulloch circled the drain after John Paxton McCulloch went off the edge and did brilliant things like buy London bridge, have it disassembled, moved several thousand miles then reassmbled in the middle of a desert with no water to cross.During this time ,while the cat was out chasing other mice ,the board of directors let the goose that layed the golden egg be outclassed by the invaders of the east, namely Stihl and Husqvarna.

The story is as age old as the saga of Triumph,BSA,Royal Enfield,Indian Motrorcycle,in comparrison to Honda,Yamaha.Closer to home the ongoing story of General Motors,Ford as with Toyota,Honda or ten thousand other companys that want to slice away at the American pie.I certainly hope the last bastion of hope hangs on.
