I am spending the day putting together a new RG - but w/out the ART. I have the ART version but want another;)

Found these pics online and thought I would share. Don't let the German freak you out. A picture says a löt on its öwn.

It might just be me, but I just don't see the advantage of the RG type FC over any of the older FC's other than the fact that it is not a fixed length. No way could I justify buying a RG. For a while about 2 yrs ago I used FC's a lot of the time, but since going back to natural crotches and with the evolution of my climbing system I really prefer a natural crotch, unless it is very rough Live oak bark or sappy pine.
-Is it the low impact thing that keeps you using a FC or does it actually make your climbing easier?

Valid questions. To each his own. I find the RG to be the same as the FC in terms of friction and performance. The RG is really nice to have on removals. That is why I want an all rope RG. I think they have the ability to snug a little tighter.

Maybe a bit of the low impact thing. Arborists oath, like a doctors - first do no harm...

The main reason is consistant friction. Not that you can't judge friction with a natural crotch, but you always have to think, "How big is my tie in limb..."
