Recently i was told by a local vermeer dealer that there was no winch available for my 1997 1250. I came up with an idea on a job one time that works for pulling no more than say 50-60 ft. I had some tulip poplar logs that ended up in a creek, down a steep grade(no way to powerstroke em).I cut some 8" poles bout 20 ft long and fixed a running bowline on the very end of one and ran the other end of the bull line to the logs. Tied on skiddin tongs, had the helper hook the tongs , then i carefully and slowly fed the log thru the chipper, pulling the log as it fed the other! We were amazed at the power of the hydraulics and the speed too. In a matter of minutes had the logs up and out of there. Cheapest winch i ever saw! This is no more dangerous than a reg winch, just back it out before mid feed table, lay it down on the ground and remove the runnin bowline!
