im looking to make me a woodstove and will probly be using 1/4 steel but need some ideas on design and any pics would be appreciated. about all i can find on searches are barrels and real small ones. im looking to build one about 36lx16wx30tall somewhere in that area. just a square box on legs or maybe a platform.

Fisher, All Nighter both are made of 1/4" plate... look up steel plate wood stoves...

I just finished building one for a friend , 1/4" steel 30"x30"x32" tall. the fire box is 7.1 cubic ft. It's a top loading down draft style with lots of fire brick. It' an airtight design. It's a beast of a stove, works better than expected. It will hold 500* stove temp with 200* flue temp for 30 hrs. he is heating his 10,000 sq ft machine shop with it. the only wood it's seen so far is seasoned pecan. we are getting ready to retro fit a stainless steel honeycomb combustor in the flue camber. I'm just about done with another one for my shop, it will have a 2.6 cubic ft fire box . His stove is burning very clean with only very fine ash on the inside. with it running at 500* very slight visible smoke from the flue, thinkin the stainless honey comb will solve that. very impressive stove so far, very heavy also at 750 lbs. should last several life times. Hope this helps.20141129_095352 (Medium).jpg 20141202_131216 (Medium).jpg 20141202_131117 (Medium).jpg

is there a place to buy premade doors and other stove parts? this is the stove i have now, it was bought new in 76 and it is starting to get holes in it. i would like to put it in my shop but with the holes there is no way to shut it off because it draws all the time, is there something i can fill the cracks with? i have tried welding it but its so old and thin it just burns thru.

Why did you make it with a top feed vs side or front ? My cousin was asking me if I had any ideas on how to make 1.

My uncle built one out of a big chunk of steel pipe that he got for free off of a crew putting underground sewer, gas lines in. He welded ends in it and used the door kit similar to one would get with a barrel stove. The thing throws heat like crazy and he dosen't have much money in it. He said it is about 25 yrs old too and you would never guess by looking at it.

Just put up a double walled stainless steel chimney for my old All-Nighter up my father's barn! Very simple design and very well built!
How about copying a Tempwood? Can be found thru Google. Been heating with one since 1977!

Awesome work on the stove. Not sure I get how the top load works and won't it get smokey when loading? Or does it not stay lit continuously? I am guessing the last pic shows the ash door? Guess I will have to look into how the downdraft works.
