I recently got a lot of chainsaws from a fellow and he threw in a crankcase. I know it’s a Stihl but how can I dentify which model? The serial number is 111463575. Thanks!

Where would that be located?
I'm trying to remember I just rebuilt my 441 and I believe that those numbers were on the inside under on the crankcase but I think you might have to pull the tank handle to look possibly... But I don't have a lot of experience with them and others here would know a lot better than me exact location.

First four numbers of a part number will give you the saw series. 1115 is 045/056

What else did you get in the haul?
I’ll post pics in a minute, but I got a 045 AVSE, a 031AVE, that Stihl crankcase, a home lite model 17 and a top cover/handle for a 056 AVE. After the above comments I would assume that cover is for the crankcase. I’ll do the straw test and report back

The 031 is pretty corroded on the bottom. I’ll attach a picture. This is not something I’ve dealt with before, is there a “fix” or is the only fix to get a different crank case?929FED4D-862B-453F-9155-DBA7F21A8B1E.jpegDC2D3ED1-AC8B-4B30-9BE5-59728E515C9D.jpeg

Looks pretty rough.. I have seen worse. It will probably be a parts saw. Before you go very far check if it has Spark and compression.. as it comes apart check bearings and so on. It may pass a vacuum test and if it does you could try to get it running for entertainment reasons and you will know what you have.. Will your oil tank hold oil or is the Mag Rot all the way through?

I don’t have a vacuum tester or compression tester yet. They are on my list to get. Do you have recommendations?
