I'm curious. Don't see anything on it. There is a sticker on the bottom of the say that says 04. If it is an etech, what part number muffler do I need. Also will it void the warranty? Will the saw need to leaned out or richened. Don't have a tach and don't want to wreck the saw either. Thanks

Don't worry Mike, if yours is an '04 then it isn't an E-tech. They only started arriving this past year.

The E-tech saws are most easily identified by the green fuel cap. It would also say E-tech on the starter cover decal.

You don't have to buy a muffler!

apparently, if it catches on fire, it might be an e-tech. :hmm3grin2orange:

The E-techs have been there from the beginning (1999) here, as an option.

The earlier 242xp was also offered in an E-tech version.

In all seriousness, the E-tech saws that Husky makes all have a VERY distinctive green gas cap. You cannot miss it.

Unless your blind, or cannot distinguish green from orange, or you are stupid, or stupid and blind...

But it most cases you can tell if its e-tech by looking for green cap in saw, if there aint one then its not e-tech...

That is not an E-teck, unless someone has changed out the caps, and the logo on the starter cover.

The telltale sign of a e-tech saw is when your muffler crackles & pops like frying bacon after you shut it off.
Damn them things get hot!

Mine sounds like a marble bouncing around in my muffler... very distinctive 'pings'

The sheet metal is definatly getting its work out, might be brittle after a few years of getting hotter than the blazes of hell, and back how many hundreds of thousands of times....

Well, you dont have to worry about the muffler getting plugged at that heat, and after you stop sawing you can light a fire and boil coffee on the stored heat of muffler

Green Caps?

Kinda funny a discussion started about E-tech's and green caps as identifiers. After my recent trip to the local Husky dealer, I noticed that none of the should be E-tech's had green caps and was wondering if that fad had passed (the color of the caps, not the E-tech design). Does this mean the cap color isn't necessarily an identifier anymore?

Sometimes you would think that the muffler bolts were snapping after you shut them off.

dumb question about e-tech...

Why does the epa "pick on" the medium/large saws & pro saws? I noticed that the husky 345, 350 don't use cat converters or strato charging like the larger & pro saws. I don't think my Stihl 025 has a cat converter either. Maybe they're just jetted leaner? I would think that the cat muffler would be more detrimental to larger displacement saws that stay in the cut longer, building up even more heat.

:help: No response? Please...someone...:help:

Like I was trying to describe...I am pretty sure that all the new saws I saw at the local saw shop had grey/black gas caps. None of the usual E-tech saws had green caps. So, can E-tech saws come with the old cap color now?

The problem may be that nobody really knows......

It is the first time I read about E-tech saws with gray caps. If it is the case, the saws should also read E-tech on the left side (starter house) label.

Mark;

Not sure what your dealer has in stock, but the only saws that are cat equiped E-techs so far are: 353, 346XP, and the 359. All of them should have the green fuel cap. The 346 is the most recent, so there could be some non-Etech saws still out there. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 357XP be the next one. (Just a guess on my part. The Jonsered 2156 already has the cat/green cap.)

Why the 340/345/350 do not have the cat muffler is a question I don't have an answer for. Could be some use of EPA credits or whatever.

There are also some new models coming out this year in these smaller sizes. There is a new 445 due out that is another strato design. It will have it's own chassis different from the 455/460. It has the quick release top clips, rather than the screws, so it may be more of a pro saw. We could probably assume that there will be additional models based on this chassis. Now, wouldn't this be a perfect opportunity for Husky to come out with a really hot 50CC saw like the 5100 Dolmar?

Disclaimer: That last sentence is just a hopeful wish/suggestion on my part, and should not be the beginning of a rumour!
