after a few weeks it would take a can of carb cleaner for each saw that gets too pricey......simple green and a hose? i have a compressor to blow them off. i'm not talking the outside ......the carb area, starter assembly, clutch side etc. i run all husky's except climbing saw's are stihl.

I take off all the coverrs and use a little disposable type paint/chip brush. Stubborn stuff might require a little solvent. I use jet fuel or mineral spirits.

Jimbo

I use WD-40 at the end of the day real quick. Every week or so I use carb cleaner and rags.

Mike if you take care of your tools they last longer!

Well,I have a nice 2800 psi pressure washer.I don't however ,use it on my saws.Compressed air works wonders.

Sparying carb cleaner doesn't sound like it's good for chainsaws or the environment!
My saws always last until some new model comes out and I replace it.

Its not and thats why I do t in a parts cleaner bin. Should I bring it to a HAZMAT team and have them take care of my saw?

maybe I will use canola oil in my bar and chain and convert my 2 stroke to a diesel so I can run old cooking oil as fuel. I am sure you already do this because you are a very environmentally focused individual.

Carb cleaner gets stuff off good, air is great, I have a thing about filing the bar often. If you don't treat your equipment good it will let you down one day. Put your woman first of course but after her, the dogs and the trucks, the saws come next. Think about it, you have your hands on your saw probably more than on your woman. I do not talk to my woman the same way as I talk to some saws though, ever.

I always used gas to clean my 8 chainsaws. Carb cleaner is better but, holy smokes, that gets expensive, and so is gas!

I start with my gas pressure washer, once that is done and nice and clean I use my back pack blower to blow off the excess water, once most of the water is gone I use my air compressor with needle point nozzle to blow the hard to reach areas, then I use Simoniz or Turle wax on all the plastic and metals, I finish them of by oiling the bar, bar groove and chain.

Then I kiss them good night and tuck them in on the old mattress.

Solvents remove crud that is baked onto the saw,air won't get it all. Mike, if you care about the enviroment why don't you conserve your saws and use them intead of being a newest model consumer and contributing to blah, blah blah...I love those old 288xp saws, maybe there would be more of them if people had looked after them.

i just ordered 2 395's and a 372 to go along with my other 395 288 385 359 ms200......all in a days work ya know. i pulled apart a 372 today to replace some vibration bushing's and the muffler (lucky i had a 371 parts saw) the 372 was down right filthy i don't think it was ever cleaned since it was purchased 2 years ago.

i'd like my saw's to last so i'm sure cleaning them could only help. i don't care what the outside looks like as long as there clean inside. my 97dodge truck (cummins)is still running STRONG at 220,000 why? because i maintain it. i haven't washed the outside in a few years but i hose out the bed where my saw's travel :)

:) Roll on the floor.Old,97,you aint seen old.I've got stuff that should be in a museum,or the Smithsonian. My feeling is that if I keep it long enough people will pay me to see it. I've got some saws that were made when gasoline was 22 cents per gallon.I've never done the Simonize treatment but I might take that under advisement. :dizzy:

I just blow out the air cleaner and the bar groves/oil hole. Other than that, who cares? What are you taking it to bed with ya?

..and I suppose that would be wrong? :alien:
