How do you get the muffler cap off a Homelite xl2?

I'm guessing these are almost identical to the little XLs and Super 2s. They have a single long screw that attaches them to the engine. Have you removed the mufflers? If so, a little heat is good to burn any gunk that may be acting as a glue holding the muffler halves together. I use a propane torch to clean mufflers all the time (removed from the engine of course!). It should be evident where the halves of the muffler join. I'd heat around the perimeter, then tap with a hammer (not hard enough to dent it, but enough to jar it free).

Good luck,

Well I guess now I am confused. It does look like a single long screw attaches the muffler to the engine, but I cant find the screw! I assumed (you know what they say about that) that the screw is "in" the muffler - at least that is how it looks and I thought the only way to get to it is to take the cover or cap (its covering the outermost facing side of the muffler) off the muffler?

Here's a page (excuse the size, because its a little big) from an XL IPL showing the muffler. Maybe this will help.
