I do not know if this is correct heck it could be deadly for all I know. It is just the way I was shown.
I know you can use a hammer and listen but I can not tell how hollow a tree is. This give me a real good idea.
What are your thoughts. Do you know a better way to check?

For logging I get it but for firewood, would you have left it if it'd been rotten at the base in the middle?
If questionable and safe to leave yes I would let it come down on it's own. I am no where skilled enough to mess with hollow trees. I have one really bad one that is now my target. I shoot it. Some day it will fall and I will be 100 yards away. Lol
