Humm.. were to start.. Put in custom made shelves, measured a chimeny pipe to make a cap to put on it, put a new door lock on all for 1 person. Another person- knocked out a chunk of concrete wall to make a bigger door entrance through a basement. Ohh and i have a couple tree's lined up when its not so hot that i can take down. I think i do more sidework then tree cuttin. Ohh and the same peron i opened the wall up for now wants me to come back to put a sidewalk in when i get time

Not exactly what I meant. I meant more in terms of actual tree care. Deep root fertilization, microinjection, macroinjection, cabling/bracing, bed cleaning/mulching, planting, ornamental care, airspading, tree restoration, etc etc.

My company does stump grinding (if you were not counting that in removals), cabling, ornamental, and every so often planting.

My partner is an expert with trees and will be getting arborist certification soon (or I'll break his arms). I have been working with plants for well over 20 years (but brand new to real tree work). So, we offer espalier, pleaching, topiary, and aborsculpture services in addition to the everyday tree work stuff.

I also do architectural work and landscape design cause I went to school. My partner puts in patios and cuts grass and paints parts of peoples houses. He also did a roof for my neighbor.

I also help friends with their cars for beer. I used to have a '67 chevelle ss and I know a lot about rebuilding engines, transmissions, rear ends, etc.

We do macro-injections for oak wilt protection, cabling, fertilization, mulching, new installations along with pruning and removals. I'd say 60% pruning, 30% removals, 8% macro-injecting, 2% the other stuff. There's nothing I won't try if it pertains to arboriculture, but so far, no lightning protection system installations.

Got another nice planting job to do at the moment, pays better than treework so far. I still am looking for a stump grinder (and associated funds) but I sub that out and charge what the stump guy does to cleanup. We used to do arborjet injections but have not done any for awhile, Im not sure how well it works/not completely sold on it, so I dont sell that really all that much. Allthough there is good money in it, 10$ per diameter inch for fert, 15 for pest. I like the planting thing better and still get that "I'm an arborist" feeling/reputation.

other tree care

My company does...
Pruning, Removals, stumping,Ornamental Pruning of trees and shrubs, Root Collar Excavation, Air spading, integrated pest managment, Deep root fert, injections, transplanting of most trees, up to 16" caliper, cabling and bracing,...
plus a lot of lawn and landscape services..just no stupid mowing or maitnence

We are full service and do everything from Lawn mowing/care, landscaping maint. and installs, hardscaping to tree work.
I am not really sold on the benefits of fertilzing and treating trees yet either. Been to many seminars and classes but just never seen enough to get me to really push it. I know there's a ton of money in that end but if I don't believe in it I can't sell it, but that's just me. Also the liabilty with spraying keeps me from wanting to delve into that at all, I'm licensed but sub our lawn apps. too.

Does anybody have a complete IPM program and not spray at all?

That's reoccurring revenue which pays the bills. It's not everyday you get the big tree/landscape jobs. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten my foot in the door mowing and landed other big jobs. Just for the record I hate mowing also but it pays the bills.

I mainly do landscaping but gaining knowledge/licensing for tree work. Right now I just do removals.

The sign says " complete arboricultural services " and I mean it dam it!:blob2: If its wood then we are good.
I may not own some of the equipment needed for things like spraying and a crane but I can provide... somehow. I tend to be obsessive about letting not clients go.

Srvices

Brush Hog,
Depends on where you are and what the reputation of your services are. In the greater Boston area we get plenty of those you speak of. Our reoccurring revenue is the ornamentals we prune year after year. This obvsiouly is only an option in certain markets, not everyone wants to spend 2 grands for the guys to prune their dogwoods and yews.

Todd,
IPM is integrated pest managment. Mean that you take into account all variables and deduce a solution from them, hence the integrated. Typically it isnt to release parasitic wasps, or to hand pick all the catepillars on a tree. They are valid options but dont make sense monetarily. Parasitic wasps are great in a greenhouse but not so much in a landscape. Chemicals are often used. Water scheduling, pruning and other variables are also taken into account and can help and sometimes prevent insects and diseases but very infrequently cure your issue entirely. For example: if you shear your blue hollys (ilex x meservae) year after year, your not going to have any inside growth and the wind and light will not penetrate the canopy. This is going to lead to sooty mold and cottony camellia scale. By prunign them to open the canopy while still maintaning natural form you are going to HELP, not neccesarily prevent cottony camellia scale.
Cultural controls can have a tremendous effect of the IPM program, it just depends on what your dealing with for a problem.
