I noticed that the rec climbing part of this site doesn't recieve much traffic. I was just wondering how many pros have tried climbing with rec climbers?

I did it a few weeks ago, learned a ton and had a blast. Anyone else?

I have done it once with a few guys from another site and hoping to get together to go again soon. I mostly just go by myself or with my girlfriend.
Great time. Rec. climbers have a different mentality towards trees I believe so the tips on tree preservation are very nice to know. Also the nature learning was nice as well.

Coincidentally enough I've climbed with OTG and '020  I'm a rec climber, every time I climb with arborists I learn a lot. I'd never been in a tree with anyone using a chainsaw until I did some tree prep with OTG, that was real interesting compared to what I usually hear in a tree: rustling leaves, birds calling and shifting branches. At first my brain went "holy $@#%&!" then I calmed down :) After I climbed with '020 I realized there was a whole 'nother way to move in a tree and from tree to tree: (sideways in nice big swings) that I'd never seen up close. Very inspirational!

The first time I climbed with an arborist he was a little freaked at my attitude towards the climb. His training and practice is that trees are dangerous, get in and get out as quickly as possible. Understandable given that under work conditions that's often true. On our second climb he stretched out on a branch and mellowed out. Recently I got him onto a treeboat (hammock) and he had a huge smile on his face. Said he'd never been so relaxed in a tree.

So, it's good for tree hugging rec climbers and working arborists to get together once in awhile, it's a great meeting of the minds and spirit.

Rec tree climbing is great. Its an brilliant way to improve skills and techniques that may be considered as 'time wasters' at work, for example throw balling, footlocking and redirects / traverses.

I love competition climbing so anyone i can go out for a climb with i will. The better the climber i climb with the more i can improve and learn.

Just getting up in a big open tree is fun, i will set up a work climb or just get up in the tree and find the biggest swing i can!

I'm lucky i know allot of climbers, we go out in a group, good climbs, good times, few beers after!!!
