I have just about finished tinkering with my new aux oiler. I went to the local car salvage yard a rummaged through their collection of coolant overflow reservoirs and found something I thought would do the job nicely and it only cost five bucks.

While talking to the two guys there and hoping to find a small tap of some sort, they suggested using a lawn mower fuel tap instead.

Which has now lead to this. I need one more tap for the breather tube which I will pick up today when back in town.

However, it leads me to another question I was hoping some one might be able to answer. How much oil "per min." Should you be putting through the Aux. oiler?

The amount of oil depends on many things like
- dryness of the wood
- hardness of the wood
- length of the bar/width of the cut
- amount of oil delivered by the power head
- amount of resin in the wood
- height of oil in the tank
All this is why I reckon some ability to (even crudely) adjust the flow is useful

A saw like an 076 delivers 19 ml/min compared to an 880 that delivers 38 ml/min. Too much oil at the power head can be wasted since it has to go around 2 sprockets to get to the cutting side of the bar. At the ache turn some oil will be lost.
For 30" cuts in hard green wood I've worked on about 20 ml/min for the 880 and 30 ml/min for the 076 and vary it up and down accordingly. On the 441 I use around 10 ml/min.

Bring out the medicine cups and stop watches I've got some testing to do
Thanks for the info BobL
