Well, last year my supplier began to charge $200 a load, delivered. Used to be free, but a few more guys in my area got OWB's and started going to him and he obviously saw his nitch in the whole works. Its always fresh cut from the job, so I do my best to get ash when he's cutting one. What do you think, about 4 cord per clamload? I suppose its fair, this it the first year I started the season with no wood, so I got 2 clamloads, gonna see if it lasts the season and have 400 dollar heat?

Who else has to pay?

What is a clamload?

Around here wood goes for $120-180 for a cord, I know a guy who just got 24 cord delivered in 8' logs for $1800 so that is around $75 a cord.

Sorry, yes, I thought it was a universal name, it is a grapple truck. When fully loaded it is supposed to yield between 4 and 5 cords. I have not stacked a load to test this claim out, yet, but this estimate seems to be correct, judging by the size of the split pile, maybe more towards 5+.

BTW: for further clairification, this wood is all in log form, 6' to 10 or 11', 8" to 36" across.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was thinking about another type of clam.:hmm3grin2orange:

My neighbor just had a grapple load dropped off. About 6-8 cord of hard wood for $850. Meanwhile, Im out in the woods with my $1000 winch pulling out wood. Almost got the thing paid for now.

KTM's buddy payed 850 :censored: , thats almost as much as I would pay for LP to equal 7 cords of wood, although I never cut enough to be burning seasoned wood.

I was going to say "yep, same price around here" but it looks like we're next door neighbors.

Say I am to get a load of wood that is 5 cords but in 8' logs. Am I right for thinking that if it were cut and split it would be more than 5 cords worth, right? If so how many cords could I get, would it be 6-7 split?

Hi Biggenius:

My experience is that when you split and stack the log length wood you end up with Less wood , not More. The split wood will stack tighter with less air space and your end result is a smaller stack than you thought you had before you split it.

We get tri-axle loads of logs here , there supose to be 7 to 8 cords and its all good hardwood . Prices really shot up when diesel fuel was almost 5.00 a gal , I think prices now are ranging from 550.00 to 650.00 a load .
