Got to thinking last night as I was stacking wood. Stacking in the spaces vacated from last years wood supply that was burned over the winter. How many times have I filled this spot? Then the thought process progressed on to:
Wonder how much wood I have cut in my lifetime?
Lets see....
Started when I was ten, and the sole woodcutter for the family. We burned around 8 cords of wood back then in the Pacific Northwest. Left when I was 18 to join the Navy.Thats 64 Cords.
Came back home after six years and bought my own place, resumed wood cutting.Lived there for another 7 years, thats another 56 cords.
Moved to Mississippi, then to Alabama, did no woodcutting there.
Moved to TN and resumed woodcutting 5 years ago.Burn around 6 cords here a year.Thats 30 more.
total in my lifetime, not counting wood for sale:150 cords.
I sell around 30 cords a year, not counting this year cauze I really kept on the stick this year.Add another approx. 150 to the total.

Total cut in my lifetime: approx 300 cords.
No wonder I am tired.
How about you?

Yeah...I'm tired too.How much wood have I cut? About 10 cord last night alone:hmm3grin2orange:

We did 100 full cord a year when I was growing up and I started cutting at 12. I probably have averaged 30 full cord a year myself with more the last couple years since I started selling on my own. That puts me at about 500 full cords myself in 16 years of cuttin. I have made and do make a lot of wood.

I do take a lot but I also give back. I planted over 26,000 red pine, larch, and Norway spruce on my farm. I will be building my retirement house out of the larch I planted and maybe one of kids will be doing the same with the other.

ive only been cutting for 3 or 4 years now, but this year ive done about 300, the first couple years i only did about 15 or so a year.
im only 19 so i have plenty of wood still to do.
off to cut some more now!

300 full cords? As in 4x4x8?

I work in the industry so I've harvested countless cords and also reforested quite a bit too. If I just count my home heating wood needs, I'd say about 150 cords over 25 years.

do stave bolts count

i,ve cut the 8 cords plus my owb burns per year for the past 18 years, a little for friends an relatives and stave bolts as a teenager. guess maybe 3 or 4 hundred.

Approaching 2000 cords sold now. I can't figure out where all that money went:confused: , probably into my gas tanks, to the equipment dealer, and the bank:cry: .
