A guy down the road has an 029 farm boss. Its in decent shape & the pull start comp test is good. Has the original stihl 18" bar. He wants 200 for it. He says he bought it new in 99. I say I dont want to pay anymore than 125 for it. How are these saws & how much are they worth? Thanks Todd.

as far as i know there a decent saw (i'm a husky guy). but i have to agree, 200 bucks for a saw thats 8 years old. aaahhh. maybe if it wasn't used alot.

I bought my 029 Super in late '99 or early '00... I think I gave right around $330 and that was with both a 20" and 16" B/C. (price tag on the saw/20" was $289 IIRC, and that may have been 'on sale'?)

Mine is (truly) like new, so I'd hope it Stihl be worth $200 (esp with 2 bars), but 50% of it's new cost is probably closer to a 'fair market value.' I'll likely keep it as a backup saw, but wish now I had put that $ + a bit more into a pro model.

OTOH if it runs and cuts good (not used up) and the guy will haggle, $150 or so isn't a lot to spend for a decent saw.

I surely wouldn't pay 200 USD for a used 029, not even here, where saw prices is much higher than in the US..............;)

...heavy plastic cased saws, with bad anti-vibe and air filtration, aren't what I want.

Typical price from what I see for those is $150.00 to 250.00 depending on wear. If the saw runs good and looks good, $200.00. If it runs and looks well used $150.00. If it is barely been touched and runs like new $250.00.

When trying to price a used saw, ask yourself how much you would be willing to sell it for if it was yours and then honestly answer. Almost any good running good condition Stihl can fetch at least $150.00. Around here 031s usually fetch at least that if they still look and run good.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys. Like I said if I was gonna buy it I doubt I'd pay more than 125 for it. It has'nt been used much. I don't need the saw but thought for a good price I'd get it just for a backup saw. I want a 45 to 55cc saw for smaller stuff & would like that saw to weigh 10 to 13 lbs if possible. I think 10 or 11lbs will probably be a strech though LOL. Thanks

A 353 may fit your bill much better than the 290.......:biggrinbounce2:
