I've been cleaning the chimney for our wood stove with metal liner a few years now and have everything down pat as far as that goes. We also have an open fireplace in our living room. (The kind with no screen or doors or anything, just wide open for Santa Clause) We don't burn very often in it, but I would like to clean it as it's been a few years. What type of brush should I use? How can I do this without filling my living room with soot? Tape off the fireplace and let it settle before vacumming? Or do I need to hire someone else? Thanks again

I believe someone makes brushes to fit various flues. Round, square, rectangle. Identify what you have and find a brush to fit.

And yes, tape plastic around the opening and poke the end of your shop vac through. Turn the shop vac on and have at it.

Be sure you have a good filter in your shop vac or you will end up blowing soot all over the house, don't ask how I know that:dumb:
