I got one of my Homelite 1050's up and runnin. Man does she sound good. I've got a brand new chain and I was going to modify it into a ripping chain. This is for my 36" bar. I was going to cut back every other R/L set into scoring teeth and sharpen at 20* and sharpen the full teeth at o*. Should I do this or just wait and buy a ripping chain? Should I slowly change the angle as I sharpen. This will be my first shot at using my Alaskan on my big Cherry logs. Thanks, Joe.

I wouldn't bother.

Just use regular chain for now. If the surface is too rough, you may want to regrind to 10 degrees. Longer term, a loop of Baileys ripping chain will only set you back around $20.

The main purpose of ripping chain is to give a smoother finish and to take smaller bites that are easier on the saw.
