I've been using 1/2" New england safty blue for a while now and have been climbing with hitches but recently bought a microsender and was wondering how well my rope will hold up to the wear from the cam of my ascender, I'm just asking for some insight, not looking for arguments.

I climbed on Safety Blue for years, still do sometimes. However, I never used any type of ascender on it so I'm not sure how well it will hold up. My Poison Ivy holds up pretty well with ascender use though. Can't imagine that Safety Blue would be much different. You might find that the ascender does not work as well on the larger diameter rope though. Seems like I remember reading that half inch rope is not ideal for most ascender use. Let me know how it works out for you.

Hey thanks for the advice

hmmm I thought the opposite, that they were designed for 1/2 inch and didnt work well in the 7/16th lines.

Like I said, I have never used my ascenders with the half inch so I couldn't say first hand. I do use them with my PI and they work well. I just remember reading that some ascenders don't work as well with half inch back when I was researching SRT. Have you used ascenders on half inch before? I'm curios how well they would work. Personally, I think safety blue would be a little stretchy for ascender use. I very rarely climb on it anymore anyway.

Sherrill 2009 Master Catalog page 44 says Microcender is good for 7/16 or 1/2 inch, 9 to 13 mm. I have one on a steel core lanyard (12 mm). It works well, but it is a little tighter than the CMI Rope Walker I have on another lanyard. Good and bad, I suppose. Probably more secure, but more friction to have to work with. I prefer the rope walker, recomended for 7/16 through 5/8".

Descenders are more critical. Petzl STOP and Grigri dont work well on 1/2". Need the Large I'D or something like a Figure 8.

Yeah, I have one that I was using on my 1/2 steel core until it wore out. Been thinking about making another rope lanyard out of half inch safety blue and using it for that. Funny, mine is just a generic flipline adjuster carried by Wesspur and says it won't work on Yale flip cords. Even though it's supposed to work on other flip lines from 1/2 to 5/8...

I plan to make another lanyard this weekend so I'll let you know how it works out.

OK, I made another lanyard out of Safety Blue and put my rope grab on it. Works fine. We'll see how it wears. Not planning on using it with the rope grab for long, just a temporary solution until I replace my steel core that has outlived it's usefulness. The teeth on the cam of my rope grab are very non aggressive so I don't think there will be any problem.

I am experimenting with lanyards now. I need to get some more prussic cord to do what I really want to do with my rope lanyard but I have 2 large removals tomorrow and don't want to go experimenting too much right now.
