I did a search and found some information, but not a load of information. Hoping by now some of the people asking about the program have now finished it.

How is this program? I'm hoping I can learn a bit extra in this vs. the apprenticeship program.

Would I be better off going with a forestry technician program? Problem with that is most of those jobs require relocation, I've done an awful lot of that already in my life.

Where do I obtain other certifications? I realize I should get the basics like DZ, CPR, etc... but I'm not clear on what else helps with job eligibility such as power line, etc...

I'm also looking into applying for the Hydro One Utility Arborist Apprenticeship program, but they are not currently hiring for that.

Any information on this would be great.

Thanks, Mike

PS, I don't have tree felling experience but I do dabble in chainsaw carving. I've been making and selling chainsaw art to keep busy. I'm 28 and retired "professional" athlete

Haven't taken the course. Took the ISA Certified Arborist exam after a bunch of years of work(I'm great at the blue collar stuff and still learning a lot on the book side of things). I would spend a season working for a reputable company in your area and you'll get all the info you need to decide which road to take and see if you enjoy the work. If your final destination is a desk job, schooling would be the way to go. If your own business is the destination then maybe a combo of work expierence and business school would be better. Lots of options.

I'm currently enrolled I the urban forestry program at Fleming college in Lindsay. Come January I'll be in arboriculture. So far so good. I've learned a lot just since September and can't wait to start climbing in January. This past summer I worked with a certified arborist that graduated from Humber and he's one smart cookie.

How do you like the Urban Forestry program? I've also been considering that, but I'm not sure if I like the idea of having to move to find work. How do you like the program so far?

It's pretty good, I'm just taking it so I have a little extra on the people who just take arboriculture. It's tree identification, diseases: pathological or entomological. Felling trees and rigging them for removal, and arb practices & law. Good people easy going. I know a guy that works for hydro that graduated from here so that's kinda what I'm hoping for.
