This may be a stupid question, but I am new to this wonderful world of saws...is a 272 the same as a 372? If not, what are the diferences? Any problems with this model that any one knows of? I am guessing that it is an older version of the 372. Thanks for the help.

Older version of the 372 . Very good saw dependable and durable. If you picked one up you should be happy with it. Wade

Thanks for the info. I am looking at one being offered at a decent price and wanted to be sure that it was what I thought. Do you know if the parts are interchangeable?

You know to be honest I am not sure what all will interchange I sure a few parts will but for the most the 372 is a more tweaked version more epa friendly a much better air filter system, chain adjuster on the side case, see through gas tank. Just little improvements that mean alot if you run it on a regular basis. Madsens has 372s for right around 515$ for a flush wrap handle they will deliever it to your door for an additional 20$ and generally kick in some sort of promotional item to boot such as free chain or a spencer log tape. Without seeing the saw and knowing what kind of condition it is in I would put no more than 300$ in it tops. It had better be clean for that price. Hope that helps...Wade

Outside of a couple fastners that may interchange, the bar and chain is the only thing that I can think of that is interchangable on both saws. The 272 is in the 268/266/66/61 family. The 372 is a newer design and not the same. Mike
