Hey everybody. As the title implies, I'm looking for some advice on my 350. Unfortunately it was straight gassed a few years ago by yours truly with very few tanks through it. I commited the ultimate sin of saying "I'll put the oil in the gas when I get back." Yeah, that didn't happen. I was so pissed, the saw got put in the corner and left untouched for a LLLOOOONNNGGG TIME.
When I finally pulled it apart a couple weeks ago, I tried to clean up the jug and found enough damage to the 44mm jug to warrant replacing it. I researched all the options and decided on going with a base gasket deleted 353 rebuild vs going full 346xp.
I jumped online and ordered a Hyway 353 kit with a pop up cylinder. This is my first time rebuilding a saw and I figured I'd clean up the intake and exhaust ports and clean up any casting flaws in the transfers. Just to dip my toes into the porting/polishing stuff without ruining anything.
Things were going well until I realized a BIG difference between the jugs. On my old cylinder, the impulse port on the jug goes through the cylinder leg. On the new cylinder, the impulse port exits just outside of the cylinder leg. The port would end up sealed up where the cylinder riser and jug come together.
I researched the heck out of the 350 to 353 conversion and don't remember reading anything about this type of situation. Any advice is appreciated.20190417_020547.jpg
 
There is no such thing as a dumb question! I have asked plenty and usually find out the questions were actually pretty good ones!
Oh, and it is also ok to freely admit when you do not know something!

huskihl noted it above. You may have purchased a 353, but the pic is a 346. Is it a 45mm bore?

Some would be curious about the squish measurement of the current kit if you don't mind posting it.
 
if it's hyway it's probably 45mm bore but closed quad port like 346xp. Oem 346xp is 44.3mm closed quad port.

353 is pseudo closed port with removable transfer covers like later model 350. Earlier model 350s had the 44mm open port heads like the op originally straight gassed.
 
The Hyway "353" kit I have on a 2152 is 45mm quad port. I never measured squish because I used a gasket but for the little bit I played with it it is a runner! Four stroking north of 14k. That reminds me, i need to get a red fuel tank and get that thing wrapped up.

By the looks of the pictures he posted above, I'd run the hell out of that cylinder. It looks like it has the better plating in it like meteor. A little bit of port clean up and it probably runs really well
 
Interesting that the 353 kit is a 346 copy. I would have been really confused if he hadn't posted a pic because a real 353 doesn't need a groove in the cup.
