Hi guys,

I stopped by sears on the way home to shop for new tires & left with a new husky 350

It was a store return in the box. had gas in it & I can tell it has never touched wood.

$179 with a 18" bar

Being an "Old school" saw guy, what can you all tell me about this saw??

All I have are old Homelites (SXL, SEZ & SXL925)

I had been wanting & looking at the 55R & 359, but I just could not pass this up for the price.

I would eventually like to open up the muffler.

Would also like to ditch the 18" bar & get a 16"

Ive got a like new SXl with a 20" & have a 24" & 30" on the 925

I just plan on using this on smaller stuff 12" & under which is mostly what I cut.

Also, if anyone is interested, Sears has thier brand of chaps on closeout for $12 marked down from $50.

I thought about buying more & ebaying them.

My 350 does really well. All I run on it now is a 16" and I did open the muffler. The muffler really made a difference. Using it on what you said you would mostly be cutting, I think you'll reall like it. And you got it for a good price.

Mike,

I bought the saw from a Stihl/Husky dealer. It had a 20" bar and Stihl chain on it. I have a 16" Windsor speed tip bar on it now and like it. The chains are all a mix-match of stihl and oregon. A friend gave me a chain and it is the 95 vp. I haven't really tried to compare the chains for performance against each other......they all seem to work well. The chain on it now is about gone, I was gonna trash it but it cuts really good.

I know that didn't realy tell you much.

Why do you think it necessary to do away with the 18" bar? I would at least run it until it wears out. The 350 will handle the 18" bar with .325 chain just fine. In fact it balances better than a 16".

More important is what chain you run. Ditch the guard link chain and get some Carlton K1L or equal full chisel pro chain.

you seem to have gotten a good buy . I have 4 huskys and my 350 new ran about 320 w/ tax . keep the 18 by all means its good for the extra length . I use a 141 - 14 " for my climbing saw unless i need the 350, 61 or 326p5x. I' m new in here guys so try not to forget everyone started somewhere. I'd like to work for a tree co. buy for now I'm on my own with son as groundman.

OK, so I start tonight by giving this saw the once over & check it out for any obvoius defects.

I remove the top cover & everything looks OK. Next, I remove the plug to check out the piston & cyl (no metric allen to pull the muffler)

Anyway, holy %^&*, I see what appears to be small stones or rock chips lodged up inside the spark plug WTF???

I look inside & see some clinging on to the bottom of the plug threads in the cylinder.

My first inclination: Sabotage........ I thought OK, i'll go back & ????? & get my $179 back & miss out on my "Great" deal.

Well, turns out it is little pieces of silicone (gasket ???) it is a light tan/grey color. I removed it all as much as I could. cylinder looks OK

Are these chrome bores, or nickasil ?? It had honing marks in it

Do you thing someone has been inside it (lower end perhaps & did a sloppy job)

I have not run it yet.

Help me decide to keep it or take it back..........................

Mike
