Picked this up last nite, easily worth the Benjamin I paid, guy said new p/c and carb last yr. Crack in oil tank has been epoxied. Compression out the ass, oh and comp release blocked off, not sure what carb that is yet anybody know Zama 42?? Any way started right up, bogs and dies after you try to jocky the throttle, I'll see if I can find factory carb settings, ..

Well,.. the h&l adj. Screws are tighter than dicks hat band.. but I managed to get them screwed in and backed out 2 turns, saw starts easy. Does not die when I jockey the throttle, bar and chain seem tight ill figger that out next. Really happy with it so far.

"Factory" setting for jets is each 1 turn out, and then a guy would tune from there. I've often found things run best with the Low @ 3/4turn and then High usually around 1 to 1-1/4 turns. 2 turns out on each will definitely be running on the rich side although your muffler mod may account for giving 'er more fuel. great saw though glad you got her up and running. If the carb is original it will be a Walbro 199A, and if it's had to be replaced in the last 10yrs it will be a Zama CL5. cheers!

... oh and fwiw my 357xp has a JB Weld scar too Just ran the saw , feathered out some carb adjustments, did some cutting, runs damn good straight up cutting, cutying on the side, im changing the 24" bar to 20" as soon as i find one. Oh quatro its a zama.

Haha yeah same the auction 359 I picked up a few months ago came with a 24" bar too!
not sure what it is with 359 people and long bars
i've heard the 359 has a better (lower) torque curve than a 357xp so maybe it pulls the over-sized bar alright....from my experience oiling would start to become a issue though, and I think a skip chain would even the playing field a bunch too.
FWIW 18-20" feels about right for either of those saws.
