I want to buy a saw with my tax return. I have found a used 365 or a 359 for around $200. I have now added a makita 6401 if I can find on on here for $205. Anyway Im wondering from you guys that have used the saws what will be my best choice for the long hall and performence. I will more then likley send what ever saw I get to big dave for work so Im looking for the saw that takes the best to being modified also. thanks for any replys in advance.

How about an MS361... I know you didn't say you wanted a Stihl, but I wanted to keep the playin' field even. Just makin' sure that every base is covered.:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I think Gary just wanted to beat Saw Troll to the punch :pumpkin2:

Im trying to stay with what I can get parts for easy. I can get dolmar parts on here pretty easy. Husky, Stihl and shindiwa parts. I have a 647 solo from my grandpa that needs rings and cant find a place to buy them. Just trying to keep it simple and local.

Dude,,,,

there is a nice 2171 Jred on the tradinpost for 300. IT is a sweet saw and a step up in displacement from where you are,,,,,also he is a well known regular on the board and a good wrench @ that........ Good luck

Give me your ring needs in a pm. do you know the mm by mm size?

Since you are considering having it ported down the road either the 359 or the 365 would both make you very happy. The 359 will really come alive. You could also get a 372 BB kit from baileys and slap that on the 365 + have it worked over. Either saw once ported will take a big dump on the stock and pricey 361 and leave you with more cash in the wallet!

I never actually thought of the fact that the 2171 might be as powerful as a modded 365. Im not sure of the answer. I cant find a ms 361 used around here. found a 034 but pretty beat up and guy wanted $175 with no bar or chain I think the fuel tank might have been cracked also. Im kinda leaning toward the 365. but not sure.

I believe that is quite true..........:D :D

I have used a 359 (and a similar 55 Rancher) for a couple of years with either an 18" or a 20" bar for homeowner use (large woods on my property). But, I probably cut in a month what some of the folks here on the forum cut in a day so I can't say it stands up in the long run to some of the other saws. Mine has worked fine so far on a variety of wood types/sizes.

It has a twin brother I'd like to try some time that has about another 1/2 hp. It is the 357XP. My 359 is easy to handle for my purposes. When I do my part making sure that the chain is sharp, it makes lots of chips very quickly. I use fresh gas and good Husky oils. I swap out the plug a couple times a year and the air filter as necessary (it doesn't get dirty very fast). I have a spare gas filter but have never changed this out. If I'm not using the saw for a couple weeks I drain the gas out.

I don't know about the other models, never used them.

359 got mine about 2 weeks ago, put a 24in on it and was cutting on a 50in diameter oak with it. it chewed threw it like candy.

get the 365. It weighs a little more, but has a ton more snot out of the box and has plenty of potential to outcut a 372 after it is modded. I have two of them. Awesome is all I can say, however, the 359 in stock form is about anemic....
