I'm assuming you know that those are basically 372's with a smaller p/c? Great saws, by the way. I have a 362 special with a 372 p/c and it has identical performance compared to the 372's.

I just bought a brand new 372XP without B&C off of evilbay for $650 shipped, no tax. The 365 is nice but for the same weight and price you could have the legend! Watch for this guys auctions and request to buy it without the bar and chain. I picked up a Total Super bar and Total full chisel chain for $50 shipped

I bought a basket case 365 for 75 bucks that came with new crank bearings and the gasket/seal kit.

After the 372BB kit, Stihl 064 OEM rings, and a port job, its definetly a legend!!!

Damn fun saw to murder wood with!

thats alot of saw for 600 bucks

you cant get that much from a 361 and more cash spent

The p/c is the piston and cylinder. The 365 and 372 share the same "chasis" so to speak. You can put a 72cc (372) piston and cylinder on a 65cc (365) saw. I have a 365, and as soon as I get the gas tank:censored: I will be able to use it again. I really like mine. (And the price was right:clap:)

I bought mine off craigslist, bar was toast, Baileys had a great deal on the 20".

I absolutely love that saw, easy to work on and seems to be a good following of upgrades too BB kit, HD filter, big dawgs etc....

I recently bought a used one on ebay. It was in great running condition, but I opted to take a knife to it immediately. I put a 52mm p&c in it, which fits 365,371,372. I also ported and muffler modded it. The 52mm takes it from 65 cc to 76.4 I believe. The lower end is the same as the 372xp. I now have what we used to call a "sleeper".

Great, i don't even have my 365 home yet and u've got mods. for me:dizzy: I need the lowdown on this, what do I need, where do I get it, how much does it cost:bringit:

65cc, 4.6hp - not impressive for the weight and bulk of the saw (as with all "de-engined" models that are based on larger cc models) - but it sure is a good saw anyway. It also lacks the the four channel porting and much better top end performance of the xp saws.

Anyway, if the price is right, and you just buck firewood - why not?

I paid $285 for mine on ebay, dropped another $150 into an aftermarket 52mm P&C and bar from Baileys. I did the porting and cylinder milling myself. For $450 I have one hell of a screaming saw.

Tell me more about Bailey’s 372BB kit if you would. I might have found another recipient for one the other day. :D I read on their website that there were some issues with rings but that that has been addressed. Hopefully everyone is having good luck with their BB kits.

064 rings are a direct fit to a 372bb 52mm piston?
:chainsaw:

I bought a 365 special a few years ago for 540.00 with 24 inch bar and chain. Dealer was selling business and wanted to move all of his saws. For the money it's a great saw. It's got enough power and grunt for me. When and if it ever wears out, I'll put the bigger piston in it. My biggest problem is that now that he's sold the business they quit selling chainsaws and the closest dealer is 45 miles away. Haven't had any problems with my saws but it could become an issue down the road. Been ordering my chains and bars from Baileys. Sure do like them.

To make a baileys big bore really scream. Buy a 064 piston mill a pop up ( about .025 -.030) shorten the skirts as needed to match the big bore piston, open the channell for the connecting rod. Dont forget to set squish.

Because of potential ring run out problems at the top of the cylinder, the 064 piston is better suited for pop up than the 372 big bore piston.

Port the cylinder to about 170 exhaust duration and 155-160 intake duration. Open the bottom of the transfers some. You can work on the upper transfers if you have a foredom. The saw will respond extremely well with out upper transfer work.

Thanks for the info, that sounds really interesting. Is the 064 piston a little taller so that has to be turned down to get the right squish or is it the cylinder that has to be machined?

I’ve used a degree wheel on a couple V8’s that I’ve built but haven’t got to it yet on these little saw motors.

You’re losing me on the “ring runout” though, would appreciate a little enlightening on the matter if you can.

thanks again
