Just about to invest in new large saw and want some feedback on Husky 385 vs. 395. I am a pro user and looking to run 28" std on this saw but occaisionally need to go up to 36". The price difference betweenb the two is only $100 but which is the most suitable? The 385 looks really nicew but the extra power of the 395 looks good. Is there a new version of the 395 coming out?

Thanks for your replies and info.

Ron

I havent heard anything about a new version of the 395 coming out, though it is very possible knowing the US EPA forcing things that have been great for years to become obsolete. I'd go for the 395, that way you'll have the extra power on hand when you need it, and if you need to, you can go MUCH larger than a 36" bar, like up to a 40" if you wanted to. mod the muffler and adjsut the carb, then you'll be singin along through the wood like a hot knife through butter.

Buy a 385 I buck and fall with a 288 Husky shaved head double ported exhaust 34 and 36 bar and a 575 Husky with 34 bar and 385 Husky shaved head ported exhaust 34 bar it will pull a 36 hahaha easy. and a couple of pounds lighter than a 395. unless you are in huge wood I would use 385. I use a 575 in everything up to about 3 and a half foot here in northern california, all saw logs softwood, doug fir, white fir, cedar, redwood, pond pine, and suger pine I use semi skip chisel bit chain hand filed . by the way anybody know of any oberg double ender files for sale ?????

i'd go with the 395....i have 3 395's and at work there are 2 385's one has a walker muffler. for the extra pound or 2 the 395 has alot more power. the 385's are set up with 28in bars....they pull them nicely. i never tried running a longer bar on them. on the 395's i run a one with a 28in bar(just a muffler mod) the other either a 32 or 36 in depending on needs. the modded one is set up with a 20 in bar ..........now thats a fun saw to run.

Never used the 385, but absolutely ADORE the 395. We ran ours with a 32" bar. Never looked back. Now I'm talking about out of the box saws. Zero mods. Gas it and go baby. I personally feel that everyon out there should own a 372 and a 395, but that's just what I've "grown up" on.

Also just a blurb on what KF was saying...we have run the 32" bar on the 372 with run of the mill chain with surprising results. We thought it would have to be babied, but it worked through very nicely. We typically run a 24" on it though.
