I'm new to this site, need some advice, although I have been sniping for a couple of weeks. I need a saw for a couple of cords of firewood. Has already been cut to eight foot lengths. This is a favor to a friend/relative and I can not afford to spend a lot since when I'm done, the saw will go to my garage to die. Have found a very reasonable Husky 45. No bar or chain but seems to run fine. What bar (s) and chain should be used or should I just say no? This time of year, the "good" brand saws are mostly too expensive, and from what I have read here, really don't want a Wild Thing. Thanks for your opinions.

I am sure that saw will benefit from the use of a relativly short "narrow kerf" (NK) .325 setup.

I suggest that you get a maximum 16", preferably shorter, Oregon Micro-lite bar and Oregon 95 VP chain. Husqvarna and Jred sells both these items in their own "colors" by the way.

Alternatively you can get a similar Carlton setup from Baileys.

If you only plan to use it once and then leave it to collect dust, you may be better to rent a saw to cut your couple cords of wood up.
