Here's my finished product. Originally the dual pipes were 3" long, but they got in the way of what was being cut. This project started out as a 51/55 (45mm bore) that had F.O.D., destroyed the piston and shredded the cylinder. I replaced the cylinder and piston with a 46mm set from Bailey's. I also de-EPAed the carburetor, upgraded the fuel line, and polished the jug ports. While I was waiting on parts, I got bored and decided to hollow the muffler and give it dual exhaust. The sound is great, not too loud, but loud enough. This puppy runs as good or better than my 041 Farm Boss, and believe me, that says a lot! Now I'm bored. I guess I'll look for another project!

Cool. I got laughed at for doing a muffler mod and mild woods port on a couple 55's I have. They make extremely good running saws for the investment. They are a hard saw to kill. Funny though, people say they are a homeowner saw, yet it has all the same pro features that a stihl has... (mag crankcase, rubber tank/engine mounts, etc). The only thing it lacks is a side chain adjuster and a rubber mounted carb. It even has air injection to keep the filter clean.

Anyways, good for you. My buddies love the ones I put together for them.

F.O.D.
you must have been in the service.

clean looking job you did there. take and cut off those "Teeth" on the orignal outlet that way the exhaust goes out stright instead of going up and under your plastic case.

Good lookin work,,,,

If you're referring to the service industry, yes, I am a car mechanic. I must ask, what do you mean by "Teeth"?

Project Tested: Fantastic!

I got a real good test the other day for the 55. I had to cut a ton of big sh*t the other day, logs as big around as 30". I used both the 55 and the 041 Farm Boss. The Farm Boss had just a tad more low end to it; not much more. But when it comes to high rpm cutting, arm fatigue, and safety, the 55 wins hands-down. I will definitely use the 55 as my regular saw now. At 27 years old, the Farm Boss has surely earned the right to take a back seat and let the next generation do the brunt of the work!
