What are the major differences in these two saws? Is it just pro vs. Semi pro, or is there more to it?

I know the 545 does not have the rev boost. I think it's similar to the 555 and 562 where there is a software difference and cylinder difference. mweba or sawtroll will get to the bottom of it.

I'm not entirely sure of any transfer cover differences, but there is a HP and rev-boost difference. Other than that, samesies :D

Still not sure to be honest. Cylinder and piston have different part numbers in the ipl but are printed the same on the jug. Caps have the typical 01 02 # difference but can not find anything physical. 545 has no crank stuffers or rev boost.

Neither saw run with out that adjustment needle set properly.

Both pro saws regardless, as Mitch stated no crankstuffers on the 545, thus lower comp numbers and hp, and well revboost..........I cant really see any difference, expecially looking at max rpm numbers on the last run. The ipls will sort them selves out just like they do when any new family of saws are introduced.

At least the 545 ain't got no silver on it!

What month an week of 545/550 have you gotten, I have yet to have a carb issue with the 545/550 I have gotten yet. Any software updates for the ones you have?.

For "most" dealers up here they, have only been able to get the 550 begining 01 Jan 2013, so most saws have build dates of at least week 40/2012, just curious

We have not either. I wanted a solid answer for the needle function so the call was made. I do know this, it affect the rev on the saw. Out two rotations and it will not rev, leave it out completely, and the saw will not run.

The needle seems to adjust air that can bypass the throttle plate when closed. I find it funny that factory techs/reps can't/won't give an answer concerning it.

That is my hypothesis as well but I want to know for sure. Its a bit frustrating weeding through inacurrate info, especially when you fall for it yourself and pass it on.

Hard for them to give an answer when they do not know about it. Walbro has the answer plain and simple. Would be nice if Walbro would provide a parts diagram for its AT-2-1 carbs.

The Husqvarna IPL doesn't even show its existance, but if it can be turned out or punched out its a "part" and will have a number.

Reminds me of the "compensating circuits", that I some times have read about?

This was exactly my point today. The tech only knew what was infront of him on the computer.....which didn't show the needle at all.

My friend, thats what many of us are leaning towards with our thoughts, would just be nice to know for sure. You have the ability to comprehend other forums, any chatter on them regarding this?

Aspen fuel vs............ many thoughts, will have a pint or two more and do more thinking.

I haven't seen any real info anywhere, but it is reasonably clear that it isn't really an adjustable "L", like some have stated.

Aspen is the only fuel I use in my saws, and I see no reason to use anything else.

I believe I have only one pint (really .5 litre) left in the fridge, and it is time to go to bed anyway, at 3.32am.:givebeer:

You think mother husqvarna does not know about it? You can bet your arse they know about it, they just don't want it messed with. Being it seems to bypass air around a closed throttle plate and not meter fuel, A setting way off base could play hell with autotunes ability to find idle, ie. stop chain movement

Playing with the 545 today, factory setting was 3/4 from seat. At half out the saw will not rev proper but throws no codes. The max "out" I could get the saw to run was 1.5 from seat. At that setting code 16 was thrown. Piece of the puzzle.

Of course mother orange knows about it, just not on our side of the water.
