Husky 55 Rancher Muffler Mod

Would i gain any power from Mod the muffler on my 55 Rancher using an 18'' 3/8 chain? Is it worth it? How is it done? or where do i buy a new muffler at? It just bolt on with a new gasket ?

I know that muffler mods really helped both my saws. Supposedly you can expect "up to" 1/2 hp gain. I even did my weed whacker. I had the 372 done by Walkers saw shop (in Canada) and did the 660 myself as I inherited a set of torches. Just did my dads Husky 365 a few weeks ago and he is very happy with it. You must also readjust the carb settings after modifying the muffler. If you know anyone that brazes or wire feed welds it isn't hard to do. I used conduit pipe (3/4" elbow) bought from Lowes. Cut the straight ends off and used them. Cheaper than buying the whole length of tubing. These pics will give you an idea.

Walkers is the only place that has modded mufflers that I know of. It really isn't that hard. The guys here are real helpful.....just ask!!!

I know you can purchase a stock dual port muffler for my 660. I don't think Husky has that option for your saw.

would i t ok to just drill 2 or 3 1/2'' holes? When they modify the muffler what about the spark arrestor inside?

You can drill a larger hole in the front of the muffler like Rahtreelimbs example, as shown. He would be the one to ask about his method. You can leave your existing screen in.

Here is a simple muffler mod that I did to my Old Husky 55, and there was a baffler plate in the middle of the muffler that I have taken out.

Somewhat louder to alot louder, as a range the straight thru/open hole mods are considerably louder than an extra hole with a deflector type mods.
