I believe it is time for a new bar and chain on the Husky 353. It still has the original 16" bar and chain; however, it is ready for a change. What would you all recommend for a replacement. Would you stay with Husky bars and chains or go elsewhere? I am not as familiar with the Huskys because I have always used Stihl. What would be a comparable chain to the Stihl RM or RS? Could the RM or RS chain be used (assuming you have the correct pitch, gauge, etc.)? Thanks for any help.

If you have the .325 .050 you can use stihl 23RS 66 chain and if you have the .325 .058 you can use their 25RS 66. Or you can use the RM instead of the RS, also the RS will be gradually phased out and replaced with RSC. We sell both stihl and husky saws, but only sell stihl chain.

I would check out these combo deals from Bailey's. I like their .325 chain, and if the bar wears out fast you are not out much.

baileys has great prices on the chain.

it is good chain as well.i run the stihl RS or RSC chain on everything but the small stuff.i still run stihl chain on them to though.stihl may not make the best saw but they DO make the best chain by far.

I can't say much on the bailey's chain since i've never used it, but the stihl chain while a bit harder to sharpen than the oregon will stay sharp and last longer in my opinon

It seems as though a lot of you still prefer to use Stihl chain on a Husky saw. What bar is everyone using? Would a Stihl bar be a good choice (with some kind of adapter)? Thanks for all the input.

The Husky/Oregon bars are perfectly OK, the only ones beeing significantly better are the Stihl ones, but they won't fit that saw anyway.

The Norwegian made laminated Husky bars are lighter and better than their Oregon made ones, but it is not a big deal.

I haven't found a bar for a husky that I like better than the original husqvarna bars. They are fairly light and they hold up as good as anything else. The woodsman pro bars that Bailey's sells are more durable and last longer, but are noticeably much heavier....I like the Stihl guide bars best of all, they seem to outlast all the other stock bars, but I wouldn't run one on a husky.I am not at all a fan of stihl chain though.I prefer either Oregon 72LG or Windsor 50APL.

I believe you are right, the lightest and best bars are Stihl - but the original Husky ones are quite OK also, and also quite light.

In fact, I am more conserned by the weight of the bars, than the durability - all the bars I have had, has lasted at least for five chains........:greenchainsaw: :greenchainsaw:

Btw, on a 353 you should try the 95VP/H30 narrow kerf setup.....

Unless something drastic has happened, the bar should last through dozens of chains...not just the original chain. You might check the sprocket on the saw for wear, though.

The bar will last easily ~15 chains or so and a sprocket should last 5-10 chains with no problems...

Not!

..unless you want the saw to cut in circles.........:greenchainsaw: :greenchainsaw:

But not a big deal, I just replace them when the chain support are getting sloppy, notwithstanding the number of chains.......

Ime, changing to a chain with a wider tang is not good for more than halv a chain or so......

I guess I should clarify a little. I do not really need to replace the bar. I figured that more than likely the chain everyone recommended would not be compatible with the original narrow kerf bar. Just to be sure, if I went with Stihl 23RM (or RS) .325 50, I would need a new bar correct? That is not a narrow kerf chain is it?
