I read Madisons article about the new E-tec saw and understand the tecnology fairly well. I have heard on this site that the e-tech saws dont take well to muffler mods. Regardless of engine type I would think that all saws would run better with the muffler opened up.
If anyone has any first hand experience with a muffler modded E-tech saw post up. How did you do it? What model saw? Did you get better or worse performance. Would you recommend others do it?

Thanks Steve

346xpg etech , modded muffler and removed the "wings" on the limitercaps !
And yes i would recommend others :)
I did gut out the etech muffler on it with a Dremel, heard after I did it it may not be healthy to inhale the grinding dust from it ,,,

E-Tec and X-Torque are two different motors. E-Tec's are regular two stroke m0dels with a CAT mufflers. X-Torque engines are stratified combustion two cycle motors without a CAT.

hey ben, what's the difference in etech and etech II?

E-

Seam’s like some are mixing the card's here. E-TEC, E-TECH, and E-TECH II, are tree different engine type.
E-TEC engines, offering excellent fuel economy and strong performance while providing cleaner emissions, E-TEC has set a new standard in low emission levels for outboard engines.
E-TECH we know it’s used in Chainsaw’s, engine whit Cat Muffler.
E-TECH II is the new 4-cycle engine used mostly in some small Grass-trimmer’s.

none of the husky's we sell that are labeled as etech II are 4 cycle except the 324Lx and Ldx trimmers. The rest are 2 cycle. Also, this may not apply to chainsaws, but with the trimmers there are Etech II models that are also X torque models (326Lx is listed as an Etech II on both the website and in sales literature and is labeled as an X torque on the units themselves.

Yes we have them here to, so I know that X-TORQ can be at 2-cycle and 4-cycle engine, and that is the intake/carb system that make the engine burn the gas cleaner. And there are 4-cycle 324Rx, and 4-cycle 324HDA55x. The 2-cycle has to be X-TORQ to get E-tech II, and that's on trimmers, but didn’t get it out of my head at the other answer. They don't use E-tech II on chainsaw yet, even if they are X-TORQ.

In my part of the US we have all the 324 trimmer variations availablebut we don't have the 324HDA55x hedge clipper available to us. I've actually never seen a 324 in person though cause we don't stock any of those models. The only trimmer models we stock from Husqvarna are 125L, 223L, 326LS, 326Lx, 335LS, and the occasional 323R. Since we also have Stihl and Honda trimmers we just don't have room for every model.

I have a husky 455 rancher w/ an x-torque engine and a silver muffler. I was always told that all new husky saws w/ the silver or non painted muffler have the converter in the muffler. Is this wrong?

There is a big Hardware Store/Husky Lawn and Garden here, and they have the 324 trimmer variations available, and I think they sell allot of them. And they have homeowner chainsaw's, plastic saw's up to 455, but for the first time I have seen a "Pro model" there, the 353 and on campaign now, and thats at all similar store here no, wonder what's happening?

The 455 X-TORQ have no cat, and they are called E-Tech here but don't have the E-Tech Logo on them. I think that the X-TORQ don't take Muffler mod good, this is what have been told here on AS.

Well here in my area there is some of the Hardware Store/Husky Lawn and Garden, that are selling all the Homeowner Plastic chainsaw (and for the first time a "Pro" 353). Here are just 2 real Pro Husky dealer's, but one of them is really Big and Great.
