Completely different saws with a new design on 371.crankcase,crank,piston carb, clutch, etc all diff.371 is stronger, better anti vibration, less noisy, side chain adj, better filter, etc.

The side chain adjust didn't come on the 371, it was the 372 that it came out on. It was one of the few things i didn't like about the 371 I ran a few years back.

I can't find specs on the 371 but I would look at stroke first, as it was selected as the Husky concrete cutting saw motor.
Also, the chain break mechanics.

Yes,im completely sure.371 is a whole different saw than 272.Almost nothing from 272 will fit on 371.Mange,what are the latest news on your 346 ?

That was not mine and I think it will not be solved.
He does not want to end that story, I think. I tryed, but he did not want me to compare the old cylinders portin numbers to the new.
I think with the new piston and old cylinder it would run, but it is not up to me anymore, I got stoped.

As for the 371/372, I compared the IPL's and do not see much differance.
Not arguing your statement, just questioning.
I will compare the two this winter I have them here and the 371 is up for rebuild.

As the question asked and HiOctane answered, a 272 and a 371 are completely different saws. A 371 and a 372 are virtually identical, save minor changes like the chain tensioner.

As Timberpig said, the 272, is TOTALLY different from the 371/372 series. the 272, is an older design, and has a little less power, plus the outboard clutch, while the 371/72 has an inboard type, and slightly more power to it.

As far as I know, the only parts that interchange between a 272, and 372, is the bar and chain, and the rim on the sprocket. other than that, I doubt very much that anything will interchange between em.

You might be able add the kill switch, starter handle, maybe the carb could be made to work, other than that, the mechanical parts are completely different. The cylinder, piston, crank, case and most of the body are entirely different, as they are a completely different saw, they just happen to have similar displacements.

I am so sorry. :dizzy: :alien:
I read this wrong i thought you meant that 371 and 372 was different.
I tried to argue with myself. Lesson learned!!!!!! ;)

Well ,thanks for the replys fellows.Well thought maybe I got things going there for a while. The reason I asked is my buddy has a 371 and I have a 272.If I were to buy another saw,and had to choses between the too. I would buy the 272.My reasons, feels better in my hands, less floppy easyer to work on and I hate the throdle cable bussiness on the 372.I have tuned and sharpened both saws and gave them both a good testing in the log pile and I cant see much difference in performance if any between the to saws.Anyways thanks again for the replys.Don.
